Windlab welcomes the passing of the Clean Energy Act today by the Australian Parliament. Wind energy is already affordable and has had a substantial impact on the Australian energy mix but this legislation makes wind even more competitive with traditional fuels and will accelerate the transition.

Windlab was named in the Global Cleantech 100 list at the Cleantech Group’s summit and gala held in Washington, DC last week. The event produced by the San Francisco-based Cleantech Group and the United Kingdom’s Guardian News and Media released the Global Cleantech 100 Report compiled and sponsored by Deloitte. A panel of experts from the energy, renewables and investment industries ranked the Top 100 companies from more than 6,600 nominations from 45 countries.

Windlab is disappointed to note that Xstrata Copper has indicated it wishes to build a new stand-alone power station in Mt Isa rather than procure energy from the national grid. “This makes the business case for the CopperString power line connecting Mt Isa to Townsville more difficult,” said Windlab CEO Roger Price. “That in turn will make the connection of Kennedy Wind Farm, the Kaiwedera Solar project more challenging, leading to potential significant delay.
