Wind energy in Australia is a high growth industry (the total installed capacity has nearly doubled in the last 5 years). Growth in the industry will continue, particularly as a result of increased renewable energy targets set by State and Federal Governments. The current target is to produce approximately 4% of Australia's energy by renewables by 2020. However, the current Federal administration has announced its intention of increasing this to 20%.

Windlab's involvement in the Australian wind industry began in the late 1990s. Staff members were instrumental in identifying key wind resources areas in Australia and developing the earliest industrial scale wind farms which are now valuable assets.

A variety of organizations also continue to seek Windlab's expertise on wind resource. For example, the Australian Federal Government recently released the Renewable Wind Atlas which includes wind data provided by Windlab. The map is available here.

Beginning in 2005, Windlab partnered with Investec to develop wind projects across the country. These sites were identified using Windlab's WindScape^TM technology.

The most developed of these projects are:

• Oaklands Hill
• Coopers Gap
• Collgar
• Kennedy

Wind monitoring has been underway on all sites for several months. The data from the sites show that all are very promising sites.

More projects are under development. However, since landholder negotiations are currently underway, their locations cannot be disclosed yet.

These projects will help the nation reach its energy targets as well as providing an attractive investment for both investors and landholders.
